An observation produces a fiction; to isolate one part of reality from the rest is to sever it from its interconnectedness to all things, the font truth-making. We think we live in an era of science, rationality, information — but that is simply a pretense; there is more information, more money for science, computers mimic human rationality, but the holistic increase in practical human wisdom, or even functionality, is nil. We know of more, but it is unclear whether we know anything. We produce ‘truth’ seemingly progressively, but we don’t see progressive improvement in the quality or richness of human life.
