The psychological torture of work was invented by the industrial revolution. Irrational faith in the powers of progress technology and science are wholesale crippling human beings. You can’t even seek protection from the government which actually enforces the mandates and profit imperatives of techno-corporations.
We translate a new mode of living — the biopolitical mode — into our old moral principles, trying to equalize the conflict and create a harmony that cannot, fundamentally, exist.
There is no harmonious self-regulation. Our ability to self-regulate has been disabled.
What we have now is a pauperism of the mind: mind has been impoverished justice nature was impoverished during the preceding centuries. Material subsistence was destroyed; now, spiritual, inner subsistence has been destroyed.
Just as material meant the confiscation, the enclosure, the monopolization of common space, progress now means the enclosure and domination of the inner-space, the poisoning of the spiritual world.
Early modern capitalism meant the gradual unwinding and transformation of protectionist medieval towns; cognitive capitalism means the gradual unwinding of the protections which guard the mind.
