The theoretical replaces the workable functional, livable; theories — first things — predominant even where they produce repulsive consequences — last things. There’s nothing that we will not replace with a fake. There’s no tangible thing that will not trade for an intangible. The path of least resistance is constantly followed all the way from sanity to incoherence. Lockdown is just the latest theory that has predominated over experience.
We’re not afraid to wear masks because we have no idea what our faces mean to us. We don’t care about being physical faces. All that matters is we get to take pictures of our faces without masks and private time. The digital face is what matters, the masking of the face. It’s just a sign that power of a real physical face means nothing to us anymore.
Our physical and mental health can decay as long as our digital presences remain upbeat and well-filtered.
