Systems: no one understands them. Secondary and tertiary effects: no one can predict them. All we know is that we exist within, as well as create, overlapping systems-of-system which produce Nth number of effects. In short, all we can know is that the future — near, medium, longterm — is not what the Internet is telling us it will be — most likely. The odds of hitting the prediction bull’s eye is astronomically low. Thus, the optimistic and academic — the stat humpers — are vulnerable; the (pre)cautious and independent wait for risks worth taking, and are, so to speak, slightly less exposed to fate.
