We all know something is wrong with the reactionary climate of Internet culture; yet, we participate in it anyway, fanning the flames, breathing the fumes, of violent stupidity. The number of non-poisoned and poisonous places I can go online are vanishingly small. Certainly, the content of the blogging platform I’m writing for, the one you’re on right now, is unbelievably stupid. I have to first type this journal up on a typewriter just to get myself away from the distraction and depression of dumb shit, intellectually exploitative clickbait — otherwise I can’t write at all. On Twitter, the anachronistic culture wars of the 80s and 90s lives on in a metastasized form; Twitter is part auto-de-fe, part circular firing squad. Millions of Americans who think of themselves as well-educated, well-informed liberal-minded progressive people are addicted to craven virus fear pandering and partisan rage. Trump — being too easy a target — has made people intellectually lazy. My own mind has dulled, having so few intelligent ‘progressive’ friends to spar with; the only interesting people are the camp marooned between left and right — traditional liberals willing to say ‘cancellable things’ without succumbing to the lunacy of American conservatism. Myriad forces contribute to the collect downward cognitive spiral….

Mozart, right now, discoursing from the stereo, has more interesting things to say; he reminds me that singular spirits can be decanted from the mass of humanity.
