- In the same way that viruses never really leave our system, or our environment — can never truly be eradicated — the far right survives. This tells me that the term ‘far right’ is actually misleading: it implies the issue is one of politics, rather than of nature. The ‘far right’ is really just the manifestation of primal violence within politics, not the other way around.
- What else is there to do but fiddle while Rome burns — other than join the pyromania? Aren’t the left and right just divisible along these lines: fiddlers and pyromaniacs?
- I have dreams of being attacked by an ‘active shooter’ in public places. Our psyches are saturated with violence. There is no such thing as peace in America, because Americans cannot have peace within themselves. There are only two states: potentially under attack, or under attack.
- When the housing market cools off, we know we are near the inevitable burst of the larger financial bubble. Why? Because there is no American economy without financial bubbles. The American economy IS a financial bubble.
- It seems to me that Amazon is now more powerful than most of the world’s governments, and certainly acts like it.
