In the past week, the Trump, or rather, the Trump quote administration, has gone out of its way to make the country a worse place to live: first, by deregulating the environment, second, by deregulating the health-insurance market — guaranteeing that Americans will have worse air and worse healthcare. Trump has acted not in the name of belief, or popular consensus, but just to get a ‘win’ and to maintain support with his base of white male racists. Trump is using the executive branch of government to satisfy his own ego; to maintain his own sense of propriety and thus, his own sense of dominance. I’m not sure whether to call this fascism or tyranny — but I don’t think it matters much what you call it: the effect is terrible either way.
This week, the executive branch issued rules by fiat that will cause harm or death to thousands if we’re lucky and millions if we’re not.
And nothing happened. There were no checks in place.
