Notes on American Fascism

  1. It’s time for new political parties — or none at all.
  2. It’s not unreasonable to think of Trump as an evil president — and to explain his appeal in exactly those terms.
  3. Voter suppression has a mathematical impact, but its larger impact is psychological. It is the dominant animal pissing on the tree, demarcating where its power begins and ends. Political rights are defined by institutional might. Voter suppression is a form of legalistic tribal warfare.
  4. Evil is applied stupidity — the engineering to the pure mathematics of ignorance.
  5. 2018 feels like an evil year, just like 2016. It’s not just about American elections — it’s the fact that American elections lift the lid on the American soul.
  6. There’s something putrid, rotting, at the heart of this American life.
  7. We need to call Fox News what it is — for-profit state-run propaganda.
  8. If The New York Times was a serious organ for social justice, they would get rid of their entertainment and lifestyle articles.
  9. Totalitarianism is the species, fascism is the breed.
  10. According to Open Secrets, Beto O’Rourke was worth with an estimated net worth of $9,502,512 in 2014. Is this a crime? No — but why are progressive darlings so rarely actual members of the working class?
  11. There is no more dangerous word in nationalist rhetoric than ‘our.’
