A philosophical question manifests a hidden truth — is the presence of the truth making itself known. Questions persist because we persist; questions have to be asked because otherwise what would the point of conversation? I’m skeptical of people with certainty, who present certainty, and insist that we be certain about their certainty. Every philosopher whose ever lived has tried to disrupt and countermand the assumptions of the middle strata of society — the ordinary people who keep things running. The philosopher is really just the shadow cast by the object of civilization, the byproduct of the machine of civilization. As long as there are habits, routines, mechanizations, rules, automaticity, there will be philosophers lurking in the forum, prodding the robots, trying to mock them back into individuality.
