- Creativity is at its own mercy; much of creativity is waiting for creativity to arrive. It is a strange concept, when you think about it — that a human being could invent shape, melody, or concept. It is even stranger that while we can create, we can’t control when we create; our genius as indifferent to us as the weather.
- I used to find that I could think by releasing myself from thought, and seeing what emerges from the depths of conscious. But what and where are ‘the depths of consciousness’? Does this mythical language reflect a practical reality? Is depth the right metaphor for cognition?
- It’s not just that we don’t read classics anymore, it’s that we don’t engage the classics enough relative to the amount stupidity we let in, that forces its way through myriad ports. Books are a beautiful tool of compensation, but we let our libraries lay fallow.
- Energy. A metaphor for economics and for spirituality and for sports and daily life. We are obsessed with energy, we refer to energy constantly; we check our own energy levels like we monitor a car’s dashboard on the highway.
- Morality is the narrative we weave around our own automatic behavior. We are not moral, we are just morally lucky — lucky that we are able to call our own over-determined behavior ‘right’ or ‘wrong’.
- Humanity is choking, a good classic is the emergency tracheotomy: the knife we use to make an airway.
