  1. Reading history unveils the present, makes clear what is obscure. History enlightens.
  2. Self-branding is self-destruction: replacing the soul with a product (thus why people today are soulless).
  3. There is nothing we cannot cease to notice; we can desensitize ourselves to anything; there is nothing that you cannot do too much that will not increase your tolerance for that activity. And yet: our entirely civilization functions to increase your sensations. The result is that you don’t feel anything.
  4. Our modern lives are a war against sleep.
  5. Our lives are a war against implanted desires.
  6. To be a human being, you have to love the light at the end of the cave: you have to fall in love with it.
  7. Most of us are uncomfortable if we’re comfortable; we prefer to be pinched into a mold — we prefer to be forced into an unnatural position. We’ve been conditioned to hate our natures.
  8. Is it conspiratorial to notice that most anti-depressants decrease sex drive? Isn’t so much of psychiatry just an attack on the vitality of the human body?
