  1. We must carefully distinguish between the artist and the neurotic: for one is constantly posing as the other.
  2. Self-commodification represents the end of the archetype known as “the artist” or “the poet”. Art is a beach shell: an empty object, strewn ashore, foisted up by the sea, just like garbage.
  3. The defeat of heroism lets the soul in.
  4. There is no such thing as free love, just as there is no such thing as free lunch.
  5. Eros is the go-between between the world of the living and the dead. Eros is the matter to mortality’s dark matter.
  6. Vitality means searching, willing — expanding past the boundary of safety.
  7. The daemon is like a rudder, that directs the soul towards the open sea.
  8. The difference between the writer, and the person-who-writes, is that the writer has a daemon, and the person-who-writes merely has a writing utensil.
  9. A diagram:

BRAIN: MIND: SOUL: SPIRIT

=

PYSCHIATRY: PSYCHOANALYSIS: PHILOSOPHY: THEOLOGY.
