To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
So much of my time is spent thinking: “What is the right attitude towards life?” Stoic indifference? Contempt? Irrational joy? Rational joy? Should I embrace contradictions or seek coherence? Embrace death or ignore it? Love everyone — or tell them to fuck off?
It’s amazing how, despite what we say, despite the appearance of ‘being someone’ or having ideas or having opinions — we don’t really know anything; don’t have anything absolutely solid upon which to stand; upon which to build our personas into real personalities.
The worst part of adulthood is that there is no one to tell you that it will all be alright, that it will all make sense, like your parents did when you were small; there is no easy antidote for the flux of perception and feeling.
