While I left work today, I made an informal list of ways to fix the MTA (because I’m tired of waiting). In no particular order:
- Hire The Boring Company to drill several next generation cross-borough hyperloop lines.
- Increase tolls on gasoline cars, remove tolls for all-electric cars.
- Tax short-distance Uber rides.
- Tax on all uninhabited investment properties.
- Decrease ridership fees.
- Free ridership for all citizens beneath the poverty line.
- Freeze all aesthetic improvements until signals are modernized.
- Eliminate multi-car trains; install long, single-car trains like you find in Toronto or Vienna.
- Allow book vendors at subway stations.
- Build electric trolley routes along the coasts of Brooklyn and lower Manhattan.
- Tax luxury condos within x number of feet of subway stops, eliminate fees for any buildings powered entirely by green energy.
- Increase the speeds at which trains are allowed to travel.
- Open super-express line to JFK.
