I’m having a terrible day — or just dull and listless one full of missed or pointless connections and orders of business. My psyche just feels wilted — I’ve been working too hard, or just connected to the idea of work too much (I read an article in The New Yorker recently reviewing books arguing for decreased screen-time and my reaction was: duh!)

All around me, I see people on their phones, looking wilted as well. I write about this a lot, because it never doesn’t shock me: the way we’ve sort of receded into the screen-glow; it seems scandalous, unbelievable, unconscionable. Doesn’t the human spirit deserve better?

Probably. But the problem is: we don’t acknowledge the human spirit as a salient factor anymore; in our spiritless world, all that matters is increasing the flows of info-capital that course through our cognitive apparatus (previously known as the soul).
