  1. Recognize that your organism is just trying to survive. It will reduce risk and seek predictability.
  2. Theology is the poetry of thought.
  3. You cannot be released from your anxiety, you cannot meditate your way out of life’s tragic circumstances. Some things cannot be fixed, or made more efficient, or cheerful.
  4. A good philosopher is a subtle autobiographer.
  5. Philosophical are personal problems turned inside out.
  6. Nothing can trouble the dominance of a true image: make an image for your soul, and it will endure.
  7. Religious truth, even negative truth (nihilism), is not only a portion, but a general condition, of knowledge.
  8. Sanity means taking responsibility, not making exceptions.
  9. A personality disorder is a want of philosophy; neurosis is a breakdown of practical reasoning.
  10. Theology, at this point in the history of culture, is any thoughtful anti-reductionism (holism).
  11. All beings may conduct themselves with grace, dignity, passion.
  12. Your soul is an algorithm which answers the question: why is there life on earth?
  13. Plato’s comparison of the city and the soul could not have been more apt. The depth, power, and perceptivity of this analogy has never been fully appreciated.
