The leap from a washing machine to sentient AI is not exponential, it is gradual; AI is not a singular entity like a brain, it a pulsating network of non-intentions that become intentional, or act intentional, the same way a virus does. A virus is not alive: it is protein which behaves like organic, living, material. Machines to do not have to Be alive in order to displace, dominate, and domesticate us. The whole genre of science fiction conceals the science faction we’re living in. We are gradually building a non-living, non-organic, machine-information-System around ourselves like a harness. Only the myth of our own rationality and intentionality and individuality keeps us from seeing what we’re doing to ourselves.
